POE (Power Over Ethernet) adapter are useful to remotely power devices working at 5, 9 and 12 volts through the data cable. This avoid the necessity to deploy a power cable till the remote unit.
It's the best way to power up IP cameras, IP phones or wireless access points/repeaters. The max distance, rated up to 90 meters, and the max power the remote device could sink depends by the type of POE adapter used.
